As classic albums get re-issued with bonus tracks in "deluxe" editions, every so often you get a previously unreleased Christmas song. It's a real treat for people like me, who love Christmas music and also love collecting Christmas music.
I also like to find these gems so I can share them on the Sounds of Christmas.
Admittedly, this one may seem a little ridiculous. But when I saw that Elton John was issuing a 40th Anniversary SUPER DELUXE edition of "Goodbye Yellowbrick Road", I had to check out those bonus tracks.
All that is really cool, but that isn't what caught my eye.
Rudolph did.
You see, on the second concert CD, Elton performs a version of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer".
I've heard this before on a bootleg. If so, it's all instrumental, and only about a minute long. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't know it was Elton John unless someone told you. You can check it out for yourself on this video. It starts just past the six minute mark.
But it is pretty cute.
It's a lot to go through for one song. And I know most people won't get why this is a cool find. Or care that it exists. Let alone, understand why I want it.
Nevertheless, I look forward to playing it when the Sounds of Christmas goes back on the air next Fall!
Hope you enjoyed hearing it today, and hope you get to hear it again next season!
And may you always believe in Santa Claus!
