Happy Birthday, Perry! Perry Como would be 100 today! Here's his version of "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas" from a 1958 TV Christmas special (not sure of the source). Even though the sound quality isn't great, it sure does make it feel like Christmas!
While working on Gullivers Travels, Jack Black and Jason Segel got the idea of releasing a charity Christmas single, covering Bing Crosby and David Bowie on "Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy"! This was a treat from a few years ago. Julian Casablancas, front man for The Strokes, recorded a cover of a Christmas song that had been featured for several seasons on Saturday Night Live! This comes from Daryl's online series "Live From Daryl's House". He does one of these mini-concerts about once every month, and they're all archived on his website --> http://www.livefromdarylshouse.com/ This comes from an appearance with WPLJ's Scott and Todd at a Children's Hospital event. Could this be a little taste of what's to come with Meat Loaf''s Christmas album, due later this year? While he was riding high on the charts with a string of hits in the early 1980's, Billy Squire directed this video of his original Christmas song "Christmas Is The Time To Say I Love You"! On YouTube, Billy says this is the only known video recording left, and he had to grab it from an old VHS tape. Still, it certainly captures the flavor of the holiday classic! Oh, and happy birthday, Billy! Since it's Irving Berlin's birthday, I thought we'd kick off this new feature with his classic "White Christmas". This is one of the earliest-known versions, from Bing Crosby in 1942! |
