The Top Ten Before Christmas

12/22/2013

Hi All!

It seems like we just got started, and now Christmas Day is almost here!

Thanks so much to everyone who has already stopped by and shared some of your holiday with us!  Hope you're having a wonderful season, so far!

This week, we added new music from Sarah McLachlan, Scott MacIntyre, Harry Connick Jr., Jack Johnson and Marillion (just to name a few)!  And there's plenty more to come!

The All Request Hour and the New Music Hour will continue through the end of December, so you still have time to get requests in and catch the latest new Christmas music!  In fact, if there's something you'd like to hear, just click on the REQUEST tab at the top of the page and let me know about it!  The All Request Hour is on every weekday from noon to 1:00pm Eastern.  The New Music Hour is on each weeknight from 8:00pm to 9:00pm (Eastern).

And at 1:00am and 7:00am, and 1:00pm and 7:00pm, you'll get an hour's worth of Christmas music from the Stars of the Sounds of Christmas - spotlighting the singers and bands who have supported us in the past, and continue to support us, with their time, talent and treasure!

Special thanks to DeDe, Kanisha K, Luanne Hunt, Sarah Pierce, Kenny Davies, Terence P. Minogue, Barbara Bretton, Louis Colaiannia, Natasha Miller, Danny Wright, James Robert Webb and Joel Kopischke for sponsoring this year's broadcast!  Without them, there wouldn't be a Sounds of Christmas!
You can click on each of their names and visit their homes on the web, check out their music and books, and, if so moved, buy their stuff!  Or look them up on Amazon, iTunes, etc.  Or just visit them on Facebook or Twitter and show them some love!

Oh, Two For Tuesdays will also continue til the end of December!  Every Tuesday in December, you'll hear two in a row from all your favorite singers and bands!

That's the news for now, so let's move on to this week's top twenty!  Since the Sounds of Christmas plays so many songs, all the top ten's are actually top twenty's.  It just seems hard to limit it to only ten, when we play so many!

By the way, here's how the rating system works at Live 365.  To be able to vote on songs, you have to have an account with Live 365.  This is free and only takes a minute or two to set up.  Just go to their home page RIGHT HERE and click LOG IN/SIGN UP in the upper right.  Then follow the prompts to start a new account.

To vote, listen through the Live 365 website HERE.  On the player, you'll see a cartoon "thumbs up" hand and a cartoon "thumbs down".  Click on either during the song you want to vote on.  Oh, and Live 365 also counts it as a "thumbs down" vote when you turn off the station, so don't turn us off when it's a song you really like.  Hope that all makes sense!  If not, you can check out a previous blog which goes into a little more details RIGHT HERE!

Anyway, here's this week's list of the highest-rated songs on the Sounds of Christmas....

1) Tey "Christmas Is Easy When Love Is Around"

Hi All!

Wow!  I can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving (here in the U.S.)!

This week, we added new music from the Jive Aces, Kim Wilde, Crystal Bowersox, GLEE's Matthew Morrison, the Ready Set and San Dollar Rodeo (just to name a few)!  And there's plenty more to come!

The All Request Hour and the New Music Hour will be back on Monday.  In fact, at some point over the weekend, there will be a Request tab at the top of the page, so you can leave your requests there.  The All Request Hour will be on every weekday from noon to 1:00pm Eastern.  The New Music Hour will be on weeknights from 8:00pm to 9:00pm (Eastern).

And at 1:00am and 7:00am, and 1:00pm and 7:00pm, you'll get an hour's worth of Christmas music from the Stars of the Sounds of Christmas - spotlighting the singers and bands who

A couple other programming notes to mention.  First, we've gotten a lot of requests to play Arlo Guthroe's "Alice's Restaurant" on Thanksgiving.  This year, we're going to do it.  So if you'd like to hear that on your Thanksgiving, you'll get three opportunities - 10:00am, 4:00pm and 10:00pm (all times Eastern).  The first one will be the original recording.  The second will be an update Arlo did in the 1990's.  The third will include a recent performance from Australia about the difficulty in Remembering Alice, along with the original version!

And then, once we're into December,
Two For Tuesdays will be back!  Every Tuesday in December, you'll hear two in a row from all your favorite singers and bands!

The Last Top Ten Of The Season

1/4/2013

Hi All!

Not much in the way of news this week.  Christmas and New Year's have come and gone, and the Sounds of Christmas will go away Sunday night, following the Feast of the Epiphany.

Thanks so much for stopping by and listening this season, spending at least a little of your Christmas celebration with us!  I hope you've enjoyed the music this year, and I'm already looking forward to Christmas 2013 (and hoping that this is the year we really do get that Christmas album from Pat Benatar)!

I'd also, one more time, like to thank the singers and bands who helped make this season possible (many of which you've heard on the Stars of the Sounds of Christmas)!  A giant THANK YOU to the Polyphonic Spree, the Prog World Orchestra, Scotty McCreery, Richard Kincaid, Chuck Cape, Frank D'Angelo, Luanne Hunt and Lois Mahalia.  Without them, there would be no Sounds of Christmas!  You can click on each of their names and visit their homes on the web, check out their music and, if so moved, buy their stuff!  Or look them up on Amazon, iTunes, etc.  Or just visit them on Facebook or Twitter and show them some love!

That's about it, i think.  I hope this new year brings you much happiness and joy!

And with that, here's the last Top Ten of the season....

1) Ronnie Spector and Darlene Love "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree"
2) Michael Keaton "Frosty the Snowman"
3) Otis Redding "White Christmas"
4) Burl Ives "A Holly Jolly Christmas"
5) Casting Crowns "I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day"
6) Brian Wilson 'Christmasey"
7) Collective Soul "Blue Christmas"
8) Josh Groban "I'll Be Home For Christmas"
9) Chris Mann "White Christmas"
10) Dean Martin "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"
11) The Empty Pockets "Baby It's Cold Outside"
12) Lois Mahalia "I'd Like You For Christmas"
13) Dreams So Real "Red Lights (Merry Christmas)"
14) Louis Armstrong "Christmas In New Orleans"
15) Polyphonic Spree "A Working Elf's Theme"
16) TobyMac with Leigh Nash "Christmas This Year"
17) Lisa Kessler "Coventry Carol"
18) Payolas "Christmas Is Coming"
19) Sleeping At Last "Silver Bells"
20) Bob Rivers "Toy Sack"

I'm still crunching numbers, and should have a Top 100 list (for the whole season) up next week!

Thanks again for listening, and sharing the season with us!

And may you always believe in Santa Claus!

The Top Ten After Christmas

12/29/2012

Hi All!

What a difference a week makes!  This week's top ten looks very different from last week's!

As we got closer to Christmas, we saw a real surge in listeners again this year!  116 countries outside the U.S. joined us, along with folks in all 50 states and Washington DC!  Thank you so much for spending part of your Christmas celebration with the Sounds of Christmas!

We'll still be here for just over one more week.  Since the Twelve Days of Christmas actually come AFTER Christmas, the Sounds of Christmas will keep going through Epiphany!

As we move into January, we will be putting away some of our toys.  The All-Request Hour, the New Music Hour and the Stars of the Sounds of Christmas will all go away until we come back on next Fall.  Monday's All Request Hour will be the last one of the season, and it will feature some of the highest-rated and most-requested songs from the last two months.  Monday's New Music Hour will showcase many of the songs we nearly missed, most of which were released during that final week running up to Christmas!

I'd like to thank the singers and bands who helped make this season possible (many of which you've heard on the Stars of the Sounds of Christmas)!

That's the news for now, so let's move on to this week's top ten.  Since the Sounds of Christmas plays thousands of songs, all the top ten's for the rest of the season will have at least twenty songs.  It just seems hard to limit it to only ten, when we play so many!

Anyway, here's this week's list of the highest-rated songs on the Sounds of Christmas....

1) B.B. King "Please Come Home For Christmas"
2) Brian Setzer Orchestra "the Nutcracker Suite"
3) Norah Jones "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear"
4) Sleeping At Last "Snow"
5) Donnie Iris and the Cruisers "Carol Of The Bells"
6) Joan Baez "The Little Drummer Boy"
7) BoDeans "Christmas Time"
8) Madonna "Santa Baby"
9) Eels "Everything's Gonna Be Cool This Christmas"
10)
The O'Jays "I'm What You Want This Christmas"
11) Otis Redding "White Christmas"
12) Bing Crosby "Do You Hear What I Hear"
13) Tim Zimmerman and the King's Brass "Go Tell It On The Mountain"
14) The Beach Boys "Merry Christmas Baby"
15) Lisa McClowry "Before The Tree Comes Down"
16) Dave Davies "Father Christmas"(live)
17) Elvis Presley "If Every Day Was Like Christmas"
18) Aimee Man "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch"
19) Josh Groban "Believe"
20) Lois Mahalia "I'd Like You For Christmas"

By the way, if you want your voice to be heard, rating the music we play, you can find the details on how to do that RIGHT HERE!

Thanks again for listening, and sharing the season with us!  If you know someone who loves Christmas music, please send them my way!

And may you always believe in Santa Claus!
