Granted, Fall Out Boy isn't really known for their holiday contributions, but their cover of "What's This?" from "Nightmare Before Christmas" is quickly becoming a favorite! Plus, it's drummer Andy Hurley's birthday!

It's always a treasure to come across a Benny Goodman Christmas song, and since today is his birthday, it seems like a great reason to share this concert from 1935. Right after the introduction, they play Benny's own arrangement of "Jingle Bells" Not much of a video to look at, but a nice cover of Slade's "Merry Xmas Everybody" from Oasis. Originally recorded for a charity compilation by NME in 2002, it was finally released widely on the 2010 compilation Gift Wrapped II: Snowed In. Seems appropriate to feature it today, on Noel Gallagher's birthday! Since Dolores' birthday is today, I thought I'd pull out this classic, which she'd sung with her husband many times. This performance of "Silver Bells" is from a Christmas special in the early 1990's. Happy Birthday, Bob Dylan! Here he is, having some fun with "It Must Be Santa" from his Christmas album supporting Feeding America! Rosemary Clooney has given us a lot of great Christmas music, and it's nearly impossible to pick just one to represent her career. This is just a small sample of the treasure she's given us, her version of "The Christmas Song" from a performance in 1965. Happy Birthday, Rosie! We miss you! This original song was a charity single released just a couple months after the September 11th attacks. Pat has recorded a few other Christmas songs throughout her career, and is rumored to be working on a Christmas album due later this year, and including "Christmas In America"! Tom Petty's original "Christmas All Over Again" originally appeared on the second "Very Special Christmas" collection. This performance is from a 2000 special from Washington, DC. Legendary jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis put out a couple Christmas albums in the 1960's, but I just stumbled upon this video, which he recorded last December! It's pretty cool to get to see, and hear, just Ramsey and his piano doing a beautiful version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"! This has been a favorite of mine since the first time I heard it back in the 70's when I was a teenager listening to my album rock station! The Kinks, at a concert performance in Germany in 1977, playing "Father Christmas"! |
