Black Friday Top Ten

Hi All!

Just like that, Thanksgiving has come and gone here in the U.S., and we're suddenly about one month away from Christmas!

Thanks so much for listening to the Sounds of Christmas!  We've been back on for three weeks, now, and we've reached listeners in 48 states, Washington DC and 70 other countries!

Next week will be a big week for the Sounds of Christmas, as we bring back many of our listeners favorites!

The All-Request Hour will be back this Monday.  If you click on REQUESTS at the top of this page, you'll find a new blog posted each week, so you can comment with your requests and find out when they'll be on!  This is the first year I've tried to do it this way, and hopefully it will work and be a little easier for everyone.  It will go active this weekend, so check back if it isn't already up.

The All Request Hour will run from 12:00pm to 1:00pm (Eastern) each weekday.

The New Music Hour will also be back on Monday.  From 8:00pm to 9:00pm (Eastern) each weeknight, you'll get an entire hour of the latest Christmas music!  I'm still adding lots of new music, so you'll always get to hear something new!

We'll also be shining the spotlight on the singers and bands that are sponsoring us this season, as well as those who have been a big part of the Sounds of Christmas in years past.  The Stars of the Sounds of Christmas will air four times a day, at 1:00am and 7:00am, and 1:00pm and 7:00pm.  You'll hear from Richard Kincaid, Scotty McCreery, the Prog World Orchestra, Judy Pancoast and the Polyphonic Spree, as well as Tommy James, Shelby Lynne and Mannheim Steamroller (just to name a few).

Speaking of Scotty McCreery, a week from this Monday (December 3), we'll be launching the Scotty McCreery Song of the Day, which will be your chance to win a CD Prize Pack including Scotty's new CD "Christmas With Scotty McCreery"!  You can get the details on that RIGHT HERE!

Also coming in December, the return of Two For Tuesday!  Each Tuesday in December, you'll hear two songs in row, all day long, from all your favorite Christmas music artists!

That's the news for now, so let's move on to this week's top ten.  Since the Sounds of Christmas plays thousands of songs, all the top ten's for the rest of the season will have at least twenty songs.  It just seems hard to limit it to only ten, when we play so many!

Anyway, here's this week's list of the highest-rated songs on the Sounds of Christmas....

1) Paul Carrack "Thinking About You (This Christmas)"
2) Elvin Bishop "Silent Night"
3) Clarence Clemons "The Christmas Song"
4) Richard Marx "I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day"
5) Dido "Christmas Day"
6) Colbie Caillat with Jason Reeves "Every Day It's Christmas"

Thanks again for listening, and sharing the season with us!  If you know someone who loves Christmas music, please send them my way!  Especially if they live in Wyoming or Alaska!

And may you always believe in Santa Claus!

The First Week

Hard to believe it's already been a week!

I'm still loading music (just over 1500 songs, now), but I wanted to let you know about a couple of things.

First, thanks so much for listening!  There are already people in 44 states (plus Washington, DC) and 37 other countries tuned into the Sounds of Christmas!  Hope you're enjoying this early part of the season!  I have lots of fun things in store in the coming weeks!

Like requests.  The Sounds of Christmas plays lots of great Christmas songs.  Since we play so many, you may miss hearing your favorite, or you might have a new favorite that we don't know about, yet.  What ever the case, the All-Request hour will be back in another week or so.  And starting next week, I'll let you know how you can make requests so you'll be sure to hear it!

Also coming back, the New Music hour.  In another week or so, you'll get to hear a solid hour of brand new Christmas music, every single weekday.

And I'll be setting aside some special hours to spotlight some of the singers and bands have supported us over the years with the Stars of the Sounds of Christmas.  It's an hour of tribute to the likes of Scotty McCreery, Richard Kincaid and the Polyphonic Spree (who are all sponsoring this new season of the Sounds of Christmas), as well as others who have helped out over the years, including Tommy James, Shelby Lynne and, of course, Mannheim Steamroller!

I'll also have details next week on how you can win Scotty McCreery's new CD "Christmas With Scotty McCreery".  Scotty sent me a box of CDs, and we'll be giving them away every weekday in December, right up to Christmas Eve!

And now, here's this week's top ten, the highest-rated songs of the week on the Sounds of Christmas!

1) Richard Marx "Christmas Spirit'
2) Hayseed Dixie "Misty Wonderland Hop"
3) Greg London "Christmas To Christmas"
4) Elvin Bishop "Silent Night'
5) Cyndi Lauper "Home On Christmas Day"
6) Richard Marx "I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day'
7) Motels "All I Want For Christmas Is You"
8) Clarence Clemons "The Christmas Song'
9) Tommy James and the Shondells "It's Christmas Again'
10) Rosemary Clooney "The Christmas Waltz"
11) Paul Young "What Christmas Means To Me'
12) Lisa Kessler "The Christmas Song"
13) Vertical Horizon "I Believe In Father Christmas"
14) Status Quo "It's Christmas Time"
15) REM "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)"
16) Annie Lennox "Lullay Lullay (Coventry Carol)"
17) Squeeze "Christmas Day"
18) Empty Pockets "Holly Jolly Christmas"
19) Scotty McCreery "Jingle Bells"
20) Kem "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas'

Yes, I know there are twenty.  But we play so many songs, it just seems like our top ten list should be bigger!

Thanks again for listening and sharing part of your holiday with us!

And may you always believe in Santa Claus!

First Top Ten Of The Season

11/2/2012

***Update Saturday Morning****

I originally wrote this post  early Friday morning, around 1:00am.  I was pretty tired, after going non-stop to get that first thousand songs loaded.  I glanced at the date, saw it was November 2, and posted about being on for 48 hours.  Actually, at that point, since we started late on Wednesday night, the Sounds of Christmas had been running for just over 24 hours, not 48.

On Friday night, we hit the 48 hour mark, and the stats have exploded!  We now have listeners in 34 states,  And in addition to Canada and Bangladesh, we have listeners in the UK, Germany, Mexico, New Zealand, Belgium, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Colombia, China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Qatar, Singapore, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Guatemala and Aruba!

Thanks so much for stopping by and letting me spend some of the early hours of this holiday season with you!***

I think this is the earliest I've ever done our weekly top ten list.  We've only been back on for about 48 hours, but we're getting lots of comments and requests already, so I thought I'd kick things off with a top ten that's really only ten.

While I've only loaded our first thousand songs, so far (actually, 1064), I haven't even gotten to play all of those, yet.  But here's our first top ten for 2012 - the top ten highest-rated songs from our first couple of days back!

1) Annie Lennox "Lullay Lullay (Coventry Carol)"

2) Burt Reynolds "Frosty The Snowman"

3) Bing Crosby "White Christmas"

4) Anna Wilson 'Yule Swing"

5) A Fine Frenzy "Christmas Time Is Here"

6) Scotty McCreery "Holly Jolly Christmas"

7) Darlene Love with the Brian Setzer Orchestra "Sleigh Ride"

8) Faith Hill "Little Drummer Boy"

9) Hey Monday "Mixtape For Christmas"

10) Johnny Mathis "The Christmas Waltz"

I'll be loading lots more music this weekend, and have great news to share next week, including details about our Scotty McCreery CD Giveaway!

Thanks so much for listening already!

And may you always believe in Santa Claus!
