Happy New Year Top Ten!

12/30/2011

_Hi All!

Happy New Year!  As another year draws to a close, I want to say thank you again for everyone that has stopped by to spend some of their Christmas with us!  Since the Twelve Days of Christmas actually come AFTER Christmas, we'll keep going through Epiphany, so there will be one more Top Ten List!

As we got closer to Christmas, there were many more requests for novelty songs, so before we get to this week's list, here's a look at the ten highest-rated and most-requested novelty Christmas songs...

1)   Canned Heat with the Chipmunks "The Chipmunk Song"

2)   Stephen Colbert "Another Christmas Song"

3)   Pledge Drive "Christmas Rhapsody"

4)   Plain White T's "Nuttin' For Christmas"

5)   William Shatner "Good King Wenceslas"

6)   Tommy Tutone "Santa I Got Your Number"

7)   Johnny Carson and the Mighty Carson Art Players "The Twelve Days of Christmas"

8)   The Bobs "Fifty Kilowatt Tree"

9)  Jose Ferrer "Yes, Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus"

10) Bob Rivers "The Twelve Pains of Christmas"

There's often disagreement about just what puts a song into the "novelty" category.  I have simply used those suggested by online retailers and terrestrial radio stations, and trust that none of the artists (or their fans) are offended by their inclusion in this list.

Once again, we have an all-new top ten this week, though there are a handful of songs that have managed to remain on the list (or return).  In two weeks, we'll have a final list for the season, our top one hundred for Christmas 2011.  So you still have one week left to listen and rate your favorites!

For those who do want to rate the music we play, it's not too late!  You just have to listen through Live 365, which you can get to by going here --> http://www.live365.com/stations/soundsofchristmas

I also wanted to mention that if you listen through our website, you don't have to stay on the page.  If you click on the little double box in the upper right hand corner, the player will pop out, so you can go wherever you want on the web and still listen to the Sounds of Christmas!

So with all that said, here's this week's Top Ten...

1) Stevie Wonder "What Christmas Means To Me”

2)  The Hipwaders "Yes, It's Christmas”

3)  REO Speedwagon "Deck The Halls”

4)  David Bowie and Bing Crosby "Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy”

5)  David Crowder Band "Carol Of The Bells/Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)”

6)  The Beatles "Another Beatles Christmas Record 1964"

7)  The Yule Logs "Northpole 45789"

8) Sheryl Crow and Eric Clapton "Merry Christmas, Baby”

9)  Katharine McPhee "Silver Bells”

10)  Trans-Siberian Orchestra "Nutrocker”

11)  Percy Sledge "My Christmas Wish For You”

12)  John and Yoko "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)"

13) Tommy James "The Christmas Song"

14) Roy Holliday "Christmastime On The Beach”

15)  Marshall Crenshaw "Santa Bring My Baby Back"

16)  Ella Fitzgerald "The First Noel”

17)  Aimee Mann "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch”

18) Lisa Kessler "The Christmas Song"

19) Wilson Phillips "Christmastime”

20)  Tina Lambert "Joy To The World"

21) U2 "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)"

22) Michael Buble with Naturally 7 "Silver Bells"

23) Brian Hyland "Frosty the Snowman"

24) Bruce Springsteen "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town"

25) Vertical Horizon "I Believe in Father Christmas"

Yes, I know there are twenty-five.  Since we play so much more Christmas music than anyone else, I just thought our Top Ten list should be bigger, too!

Thanks so much for listening!  I hope you, your family and your friends all have a very happy and safe New Year!  And May You Always Believe In Santa Claus!
